Let the blooming good times begin… The Perfumed Dandy’s Festival of Roses

I make no apologies or bones about it…

I am The Dandy and I reserve my right to like, nay adore a rose if I wish to, and I do!

Therefore, between now and St Valentine’s Day I declare a minor festival or Fetes des Roses!

Over the next eight days I shall be picking out some favourite fragrances that bare a trace of the Queen of Flowers for slither-like slight reviews.

I shall also be posting a few long-overdue scented letters that bear the aroma of these most opulent corollas.

And, if you crave my indulgence, I will also re-post a few of my favourite musings on perfumes with that certain Elizabethan something.

Let the merriment commence on the morrow!!!

Yours ever

Hooray for the Fete des Roses! I adore them, too.

    • Dearest Lily
      Who couldn!?!
And aren’t they just the perfect flower to bring us a bit of cheer in the midst of all this mid-winter bleakness!

There is a park here in Columbus, Ohio, the Park of Roses, with hundreds of varieties of roses. I binged on them all summer until the very last blooms hanging on toward the end of fall. I can never get enough of roses.

      • Dearest Lily
Oh me too. When the roses come to the Royal parks come May The Dandy is beside himself, That they seem to last all the way through to November these days is such a bonus.
Roses are one good thing one can never have too much of!

  2. Dear Mr Dandy

How wonderful! I do love a rose. The only dominantly Rose scent I have is Comme Une Evidence Intense, and a sample of a few wonderful Tauer rose scents, but other than, I shall await your recommendations. Interestingly, I find that I only want to wear a rose scent if I can dress in a ladylike way i.e a skirt or dress. If I’m wearing jeans a rose doesn’t go.

PS My goodness how we need some flowers in this dreadful deluge!

    • Dearest Iscent
How interesting that you feel the need to dress up for the Queen of Flowers! Almost as though Her Majesty herself were coming around for a digestive and a brew…
And yes, as I was just saying to Lily in amongst this biblical weather we could do with bloom to bring a little cheer.

How very apropos as I live in Portland – The City of Roses …

    • Dearest Sally
Does Portland have a Festival of Roses?
Looking on line today I noticed so many places that do, but not to my knowledge your home town. Either I missed it, or perhaps it’s time you started one!

Yes we have The Rose Festival every year with The Grand Floral Parade – it is the 2nd largest all floral parade in the US. We also have the a Portland Rose Test Garden – the oldest continuously operated public rose test gardens in the US. Its beautiful – over 10,000 rose bushes!

      • Dearest Sally
Oh, I do so wish we had a Rose Parade here… by rights England should, it being the national flower and all,
The ‘Rose Test Garden’ has a fantastically functional name and the collection (around the same size as that the Regent’s Park) sound’s sumptuous.
I’m dreaming roses at the moment… just the tonic required in this dreadful weather.
        Yours ever

Not to sound narcissistic but I do love a rose myself! I’m enjoying Drole de Rose just now, very soothing in all these storms..
Look forward to your roses series Sir Dandy!

  5. What a lovely photo and text!
Kisses and hugs for you, dear Dandy

  6. Dear “petal pushing” Perfumed Dandy, I am now swooning. Your photographs look 3-D. Beautiful! What a great idea for a series. I always sprinkle rose oil in the bath and on my pillow cases. My grandmother’s beauty trick! She also used rose-colored light bulbs! T.

    • Dearest Theodora
Rose oil on pillow cases, now that is a beauty trick I heartily approve of. I remember when many face creme had a decidedly lovely rose aroma of its own, sadly that vogue seems to have passed.
Rose coloured light bulbs though… the best! The art of good lighting at home or abroad is worth a thousand non-evasive procedures.
Your grandmama, like your good self, sounds like a very wise woman.
      Yours ever
