New Year. Old Love.
This coolest of chypre roses was neglected in life and soon passed away.
Yet since Parure was discontinued demands for its return have grown to a clamour
So much so that in the recent poll of what The Dandy should wear on Christmas day this lost Guerlain classic tied in first place.
What better way than to start the new year proper with a piece of perfume history and something of a mystery!?!
Following its selection by your good selves, The Perfumed Dandy will now take a few days to deliberate and cogitate the merits and mischiefs of this fragrance fair or foul and will, in due course, provide his report on relations with the new discovery by means of a scented letter.
Another opportunity to place a new perfume on The Dandy‘s skin will arise with the next instalment of The Perfumed Dandy’s Hit Parade.
In the meantime if you would like to thrust forward a fragrance for future fame on The Hit Parade simply visit ‘Suggest and old scent or recommend a new one’ and leave your suggestion there.
Have an especially fragrant day.
Yours ever
The Perfumed Dandy.
I have two Parure’s. One is an old vintage EDT and the other the more newly released bee bottle EDP but the vintage albeit EDT is more beautiful.
Dearest Mary
This strikes a chord with my own experience, not just with Parure but many perfumes.
The EdTs of yesteryear seem to have a great deal more subtlety and strength than more recent EdPs. There are even Cologne strength scents out there from the 60s and 70s that outshine today’s allegedly richer mixes.
So sad.
I’m so happy for you though that you have a stock of Parure!
Yours ever
The Perfumed Dandy
A divine choice my friend. I love this perfume.
A very happy new year to you.
Dearest Ginza
And to you too!
Parure was sensational, now I must get more of it!
Yours ever
The Perfumed Dandy
Although I liked this, I didn’t appreciate this enough when it was widely available, and failed to stock up. Now I really love it! I also loved the bottle design in your photo, simple, elegant, and 30ml – all good points. I’m not fond of the current all-gold re-fillable format, its just too gaudy for me!
Dearest Alice
I am so with you on smaller simpler bottles, if only all perfume houses would return to making their scents available in this format…. so much more space saving and affordable for those of us with a habit!
Yours ever
