The Perfumed Dandy’s Scent Today…… JOY by Jean Patou

There is only one Joy…

… the costliest perfume in the world?

So read the copy of a scent so good they had to render its name in capitals.

Today it may be pure soap opera, but in the old version The Dandy has will it prove to ever so grand?

Oh please let it be so and then JOY will truly be without end!

Following its selection by your good selves in yesterday’s snap vote, The Perfumed Dandy will now take a few days to deliberate and cogitate the merits and mischiefs of this fragrance fair or foul and will, in due course, provide his report on relations with the new discovery by means of a scented letter.

Another opportunity to place a new perfume on The Dandy‘s skin will arise with the next instalment of The Perfumed Dandy’s Hit Parade.

In the meantime if you would like to thrust forward a fragrance for future fame on The Hit Parade simply visit ‘Suggest and old scent or recommend a new one’ and leave your suggestion there.

Have an especially fragrant day.

Yours ever

The Perfumed Dandy.

  1. This was always one of my mother’s favorites when I was growing up, along with Fracas, Opium, something by Alix Gres, Femme, and Jolie Madame. I can’t see the name JOY without being immediately transported back to my childhood. Can’t wait to read your take on it, my dear.

A woman of perfumed distinction your mother, though no wall flower if those fragrances are anything to go by!
I only hope I can give JOY suitably transportative rendering tomorrow….

      • Ha, my mother is… well, she’s glorious. The sort who would probably cow both Chanel and Maria Callas with one haughtily raised eyebrow. You’d love her. An intimidating, fierce, genius intellectual with beauty in a pocket venus’ body with elegance dripping out of her little finger. I aspire to be a fraction of everything she is, but I’ll be lucky enough if I manage to be even one-millionth of a degree like her.

And don’t get me started on my wonderful father.

Yes, I completely worship my parents. lol

      • Dearest Kafka
Parent and grand parent worship is the one religion The Dandy can certainly subscribe to.
”Genius intellectual with beauty in a pocket Venus’ body’. Divine words. I hope you tell her so. I suspect you do.

Ah, there you are! I adore Joy. It’s in my top 10 never to be without, probably top 5. I’m so looking forward to your review.

  3. SallyM

It’s in my top 10 also. I wait with breath a-baited for your review!

I hope Joy smells better on you than it does on me. It’s me it’s eau de stale cat pee.

  5. That should have been ‘on” me-lol

I must chime in with those who adore it. Sorry that rickyrebarco has had such a horrible experience with it. My version was that purchased in the late 60s in a small green leather purse vial. I doled it out with great care. Now I must go find some of that era to join the others and have it also in my top list.

I have seen that very leather purse vial you speak of and gone a matching green with envy.
Sadly, the latest incarnation is not so good (he says diplomatically), the review will be of the vintage I’m pleased to say.
