The Perfumed Dandy mourns the departed… RIP dear IT

IMG_20130625_155542

It is with a heavy heart that The Dandy must announce that his old friend and close companion of many a moon his cherished computer has finally retired to the great big bucket shop in the sky!

After the appropriate period of mourning this morning (and some frantic attempts at file storing) I shall be on the hunt for a new Very Significant e-Object.

I therefore beseach you to bear with my as communications may be a little delayed or even erratic over the next day or two…

However, a death in the family is no excuse for forgoing fragrance and I shall be wearing the suitably funereal Chamade by Guerlain until further notice.

So, for the meantime, imagine if you will The Dandy bedecked in grief and galbanum in almost equal measure.

A vision in black on a grey suposed to be Summer’s day…

In memoriam.

Yours ever

The Perfumed Dandy.

  1. Heartfelt condolonces on your loss, sir. My own PC was a faithful workhorse for almost 5 years till it decided to expire last weekend. =(

    • Dearest Elfin One
Then you now the pain too!
Mine had been a faithful friend of six year’s standing and fought a brave battle against ailments right up until the end.
Thanks to his bravery everything is backed up and I will will be able to move forward.
Thank you for your condolences and I send them right back to you for your loss too.
      Yours ever

  2. Dear Mr Dandy,

My deepest condolences. I hope you will enjoy the memory of your time together (maybe on a USB stick?). Chamade sounds lovely- I do love a bit of Galbanum.

    Your friend
    IScent

    • Dearest Iscent
      Thank you for your thoughts.
The brave fellow gave me plenty of forewarning of his departure, therefore I am furnished with many, many happy memories of the years we spent together.
Oh and Chamade is a great comfort in such emergencies, she is the very queen of Galbanum… and in parfum unmatched at consoling and encapsulating grief.
Now I must return this electronic device to its owner and go off in search of a new love…. which me well dear friend.
      Yours ever

6 years is a very considerable life span, I am sure you will miss your trusty friend. My macbook air has been a wonderfully light and efficient traveling companion for the last two years, I would be lost without it! Hope you find something you love as much very soon.

    • Dearest Alice
Oh yes, the old boy had a very good run, a long innings indeed.
I have been fondling macbook airs today, except they told me in store that I needed a pro and as I’m a tall fellow a 15″ screen and then extra memory and after that a mortgage!!
I’m still searching and sure that something will appear on the horizon very soon.
In the meantme Chamade has been treating me awfully well, and I managed to top up while flying past the Guerlain counter at a ‘well known store’ so life’s not al bad!
      Yours ever

The small one does me just fine – I was a bit worried initially as I do a large part of my work (including writing books!) on it but the small screen has not been a problem, in fact I got used to it immediately.

      • Dearest Alice
That is reassuring. You see it’s my height I worry about: at six fet two The Dandy does have a tendency to crupmple over watever he’s working on rather and don’t want to get a comuter that will compound this issue…
Perhaps I should get a desktop and an ipad and thereby cover all eventualities.
        Now that’s a thought….
        Yours ever

Chamade is a good one to try at a ‘well known store’ – if only they still had Parure, I never bought any when it was available, something I regret.

      • Dearest Alice
Oh the tragedy of Parure… The Dandy has only ever tried it once and longs to again, but the prics on line are well, prohibitive to say the least!!
I have my own Chamade, thankfully, but I always find that certain department stores can be so helpful for a mid-afternoon top up when in town.
        Yours ever

      • Alice

In that case I suggest a mac desk top, so that the calendar etc automatically syncs – I have an ipad mini which is a joy!

      • Dearest Alice
I am leaning in that direction… but knowing The Dandy I shall probably vere off course and end up with something entirely different!
Thank you for all the wise counsel.
        Yours ever

    Dear Dandy
Commiserations on your loss. Chamade is the perfect accompaniment to such a passing. May you be back surfing the silver spritzer cyber highway very soon.
    Yours mournfully
    Ninochka.
Ps.Tell me, the graveyeyard in the photo – it is not the one near in Shoreditch is it? The one where William Blake and Daniel Defoe are buried? It looks strangely familiar.

    • Dear Nina
Thank you for you condolences, I am gradually getting through the day with large doses of galbanum!
Now, the graveyard does look a little like Bunhill Fields where Defoe’s memorial is, but is actually St George’s Gardens in Bloomsbury, a former ‘satellite cemetery’ for St George’s church now become a splendid pocket park.
One of quite a few round these parts, all worth a spot of investigation.
Thanks too for dropping by, hope to see you soon.
      Yours ever
      The Perfumed Dandy

  5. Dearest M. Dandy, many condolences on your loss.

  6. Miss Misty

Just lid up a candle for your sound friend, he is in e-waste heaven now.

Here is something to cheer you up.
When I was 4 years old our fridge passed away over night. When the day of the bulky waste collection came up my father was ready to carry the big old loyal fridge down on the street … and I started to cry like crazy! My parents weren’t able to calm me down until the fridge was stored in the safe basement, where it stood for over a year before I finally allowed them to throw it out – true story!

    • Dearest Miss Misty
Don’t tell a soul, but at the suggestion of a twitter friend, I have a decorated box earmarked for the just-departed device. He will probably live in some dusty cupboard for a while before The Dandy finally relents and allows him to leave the building!
      Yours ever
      The Perfumed Dandy

  7. May I hazard a guess that you’re posting this from your phone? Our dearest friend Lanier works his wizardry on an iPad, and yours truly on a Mac. Do I own stock? Nope – but they’re very intuitive. May your significant e-Object be everything you desire 😉

    • Dearest V
Something of the sort… a combination of soi-disant ‘smartphone’ and borrowed time on others’ devices… a favour that is sure to evaporate fairly soon.
In fact I best be off now…
      Yours ever
      The Perfumed Dandy

  8. Lilybelle

RIP Old Clunker. Long live whatever new thing you get. 🙂

  9. Nena

Oh no! I hope you can get a replacement soon! I think mine might be headed the same way. Its video card went poof (literally) and had to be removed, and I suspect the rest of it won’t last much longer.

    • Dearest Nena
Don’t wish to sound alarmist, but video was what went first on the old fella here…. gradually more complex things stopped working, there was a lot of overheating and then finally… Goodbye.
I am being entirely indecisve, but do hope to have a decision made before to long!
      Yours ever
      The Perfumed Dandy

I have an ASUS laptop (microsoft operating system) that I’ve been happy with. Mine was a birthday present last year. It has a nice, big screen.
